Why don't I know who I am?
Our perspective becomes clouded over time by self created delusions. These delusions are caused by own greed, anger, ignorance, and past impressions.
Yoga is a tool that we can use to clear away those clouds, and become more in the moment, without creating a story around it. When a person does this type of "housecleaning" to their mind it becomes possible to see the opportunities that were previously hidden by delusions and aversions towards reality as it really is. We are able to choose happiness independent of circumstances.
"It is the nature of man to be in a perfect state of freedom" stated the famous philosopher John Locke. You and I make decisions out of a sense of freedom, rather than being controlled entirely by your instincts. We try things even though they can kill us, we eat things that are bad for us, we live, laugh, love and learn because we make choices despite our wants and needs. Humans are born fascinatingly free... we are only bound by what we have learned to believe.
Why don't you know who you are?
Could it be because we are always trying to create a story around everything, and simply forget to sit down and enjoy?
Let go of all of your false impressions by looking for the good in what is happening. This practice is not to be confused with condoning what is happening. There is a difference.
Surrender all of your thoughts and actions to compassion. Compassion, I believe is a way to pay attention to what is real and what is good. To be compassionate does not mean you need to approve of everything. What finding compassion does is it directs you to work towards the welfare of others and it increases your levels of gratitude, understanding, and kindness. Which results in a sense of unbounded joy.
Ask yourself: Is the way that I am experiencing this moment tied to patterns in my thought processes, and are those patterns beneficial to me? Pay more attention to the positive and compassionate mind.
Stay present during this asana (physical) practice by anchoring your breath to the mantra "So Hum".
Inhale "So" (I am)
Exhale "Hum"(That)
Forget about finding an answer to it... allow the mantra to simply be with the breath. Your job is to stay present to the mantra, the kind mind, and what really is in the present moment.
